From June 18 to 20, during the 3daysofdesign festival in Copenhagen, DESIGN Latvia invites visitors to explore contemporary Latvian design in an immersive exhibition at the ToneArt / PH Furniture & Pianos flagship store. DESIGN Latvia brings together some of the country’s most innovative design manufacturers — including PAA, Kanttari, Nordi, Plycollection, Mint Furniture, and others — whose work showcases bold creative vision, impeccable craftsmanship, and technical expertise.
Taking place during the summer solstice, the exhibition draws inspiration from the Northern sun. In Northern Europe — and especially in Latvia — the celebration of Midsummer, continues to this day. On the shortest night of the year, people gather around bonfires to symbolically protect the light until sunrise. These traditions reflect not only a profound bond with nature, but also shared rituals that transcend time. DESIGN Latvia sees this connection with the rhythms of nature as one of defining characteristics of Latvian design. For us, sustainability is not a slogan but a deeply rooted principle — evident in the use of natural, long-lasting materials and a timeless design language that resists fleeting trends. The sun, as a central symbol, also reflects the emotional quality of Latvian design — its warmth and vitality.
More than just a showcase of standout design objects, the exhibition invites visitors to delve deeper — beyond the surface — into the creative process, craftsmanship, and technological capabilities behind each piece, with particular emphasis on handwork. Every object on display is made in Latvia and shaped by the hands of skilled artisans. Latvian designers stand at the threshold of a new era in which the value of craftsmanship is becoming ever more appreciated.

The venue — the ToneArt / PH Furniture & Pianos flagship store — is a fitting location. ToneArt presents exclusive pianos designed by legendary Danish designer Poul Henningsen. These sculptural instruments, akin to works of art, are manufactured in Latvia. Curator and designer Ieva Kalēja notes that the exhibition, together with PH Furniture & Pianos, forms a symbolic bridge between Latvian craftsmanship and our creative skills: «Many Nordic design icons that require careful handwork, are made in Latvia. The aim of the DESIGN Latvia exhibition is to introduce 3daysofdesign visitors not only to Latvia as a skilled manufacturer of design, but as a place where design is conceived — highlighting our unique vision, creative approach, and compelling stories, revealed in thoughtfully crafted details.»
The furniture brand Nordi will present its TiME collection, which invites reflection on the value of time. Its design is symbolically based on the hourglass, transformed into functional yet poetic objects made from enduring materials. The exhibition will also feature the minimalist pieces of Mint Furniture, known for its lightness and clean lines. Their furniture combines functionality with a timeless design language, inspired by modernist and brutalist architecture. Representing the expressive end of the Latvian design spectrum, Kanttari will showcase luxurious furniture where sculptural form, thoughtful functionality, and exclusive materials intersect — merging craftsmanship, design, and art.

The exhibition also includes brands that demonstrate the ambition and capability of Latvian design companies to carry out technically innovative, large-scale international projects. Bath manufacturer PAA will present the Pointe and Alba collections, created in collaboration with world-renowned designer Karim Rashid. These uniquely shaped bathtubs reflect Rashid’s distinct style while offering innovative solutions for compact living spaces. Meanwhile, the Plycollection brand will highlight Latvia’s longstanding design traditions through its expertise in bent plywood. The company will exhibit chairs designed by Danish and Swedish designers. The DESIGN Latvia exhibition will also feature other notable Latvian design brands like An&angel, Mammalampa, Baiba Glass, Livette’s Wallpaper, Mádara Cosmetics, Articul and AM Studio.

DESIGN Latvia will be on view from June 18 to 20 at the ToneArt / PH Furniture & Pianos flagship store, 6 Bredgade Street, Copenhagen. For more information, visit DESIGN Latvia website or follow their Instagram account.
